The above is from MIs drawn up several decades ago. The gravestone has now fallen face down and we could not read what was written on it. I think it likely the wording would now be illegible anyway.

This is very much my patch. I am a member of Downend local history society who are very active and have a large collection of local photos.

Oooh, that interesting Anne! I have only been there the once and that was years ago, before I really knew what I was doing research-wise.

Should you come across Curtis Lane Butchers Shop in your travels I would be very interested - that's where Isaac was living in 1881 - I guess it was probably where he lived for decades, but it didn't get a name before then!

Isaac's mother was b in Mangotsfield, but George Burchill (Isaac's father) was from Bristol itself. Most of the family stayed in Mangotsfield and/or Horfield until the 20thC.

I will look out to see what I can find. If you write to Downend Local history society, the folk house Overndale Road Downend I am sure they will look through their library as well.

I have just been reading the links to the Winterbourne parish magazine - really interesting stuff about St. Michael's children home and their day trips to Bristol Zoo and Weston: nothing to do with your family ofcourse but then family history is like that. Did you see the photo of Mr. Day the headmaster.

If you go through the link I gave you and then click on Mr. Day's name in the family tree there is a picture of him and his school. The Frenchay museum is in the grounds of Frenchay hospital and I have spent time browsing there while waiting for patients. It is small but very interesting.
