Son Thomas's burial had this note nex to it confirming Thomas Chandler as his father: "The Name Chandler was inadvertently inserted here being the name by which the person in question was known in the Parish and Neighbourhood but being born out of Wedlock of a woman named Harwood afterwards married to the father. Reaffirmed went by the name of Chandler."

The WSRO catalogue has an entry from the Petworth House archives

Papers concerning suitable candidates for receiving Lord Egremont's bounty of clothes Jan 1825

Clothes issued: Brown Scotch sheeting round frock, fustian trowsers, flannel waistcoat, hats.

Thomas Chandler. Parish: Sutton. Number of children under 14 at home: 3. Other information: Works for Tupper. Poacher and not very good character. Bounty given: No.

[Tupper was George Tupper of Bignor whose descendants still farm there today and where Bignor Roman Villa is.}
