Default Cheshire Collection - findmypast

Can't see this on here or listed on FMP as new?

The Cheshire Collection is an extraordinarily rich and comprehensive set of records provided by Cheshire Archives and Local Studies.

These records are essential to anyone with Cheshire roots or connections, as they cover not just the Church of England but also Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist registers, and, moreover, extend well beyond these core records of baptism, marriage and burial to a variety of other records giving biographical details for the residents of the county.

The records you can search in the Cheshire Collection are:

* Bishop's Transcripts of the Parish Registers
* Church of England Parish Registers
* Electoral Registers
* Marriage Licence Bonds and Allegations
* Non-Conformist and Roman Catholic Records
* Workhouse Registers

Find out more about each set of records by selecting an option from the left-hand menu.

The Chester Wills and Probate records and Land Tax Records will be published imminently on findmypast.co.uk to complete the Cheshire Collection.

For additional help identifying records of interest there is a comprehensive guide to Cheshire towns and parishes and online mapping based on Cheshire tithe maps.

Cheshire Archives and Local Studies collects, preserves and promotes interest in and the use of archives, records and printed material relating to the historic county of Cheshire. The service has in its care many thousands of records, some dating from as far back as the 12th century.

As well as the records which have been digitised and published on findmypast.co.uk, Cheshire Archives and Local Studies has extensive holdings of family and estate collections, hospital, asylum and school collections, local authority and court records, business collections including railways, chemical and motor vehicle manufacturers, diocesan, Chester Cathedral and parish collections.

Cheshire Archives and Local Studies also holds collections of local newspapers from the 18th century onwards, photographs, and the major collection of books, pamphlets, printed maps, trade directories and other local studies material.

That's interesting - the images for those used to be on FamilySearch for a while but were taken off when indexing had finished.

Is it just me, or is there no way to search baptisms on FMP by parents' names?

Ooh, I think I've had a breakthrough in OH's tree by using FamilySearch to search the Cheshire records and then FMP to view the images!

Hmph, not doing so well with another branch of OH's tree - I bought some credits to view the image for a likely marriage for his 5xg-grandparents and it turned out to be the Bishop's Transcripts! The PR entry isn't on there at all as far as I can see.

They've announced the launch of this collection today! Not sure whether they've added more records since it was released or if not, what the reason for delaying the announcement was.
