Default Don't believe everything you read in the (old) newspapers

I've just come across this in the course of transcribing BMD notices from an old newspaper:

The Belfast Newsletter Tue Feb 28 1832
IMPOSITION. -
In our last number was published an account of the supposed marriage of the Rev. Thos. Thomson. The letter which contained this fabrication was sent to us from Ballymoney, apparently authenticated by a real signature. We have taken measures for discovering the author, which we doubt not will prove effectual, and if we do discover him, he shall have an honor, the repetition of which, we venture to prophesy, he will not hastily covet. An individual who can thus wantonly trifle with the feelings of respectable parties, is unfit to be admitted into society.
