Default Richard Ashton MMMF

Name - "official" name and what they were known as
RICHARD ASHTON

Date and place of birth
C1822 - PEWSEY, WILTS

Names of parents
UNKNOWN

Date and place of baptism - if applicable
UNKNOWN

Details of each of his or her marriages - if any
MARRIED TO MARTHA WILLIAMS NEE MOOR. I have been unable to find a marriage. Martha was from Antrim so possible they married there as two of their later children were born Antrim. Richard and Martha's first child Richard was born 1856 'Tower of London' which I assume to be the barracks where Richard snr was stationed.

Occupation(s) - if any
Shepherd and soldier. Richard was in the 54th foot for over 20 years, serving in India during the mutiny. Army number 2042. One of their children was born in India.

Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on.
1841 - can't find him on census
1845 - joined up at Swindon
1847 - Malta
1848 - Antigua
1851 - Canada
1854 - England
1856 - Tower of London (first child born)
1857 - Calcutta
July 1864 - London
Nov 1864 - Chelsea out-pensioner
1868 - son Robert born Pewsey
1871 census - Cold Corner, Wilcot, Wilts
Dec 1871 - daughter Mary born Savernake Wilts
1874 - daughter Alice born Antrim
1881 Martha listed as widow so deceased prior to 81.


Date, place and cause of death
HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE RICHARD'S DEATH. His last child was born c1874 in Thannaghmore Antrim although I realise he may not be the child's father (I haven't got her cert); I've been caught like that before when the 'father' died too many months before the child was born!

Martha is listed as a widow age 78 on the 1911

There is a Richard Ashton death listed in the Irish Civil Registration indexes on FamilySearch RecordSearch in 1877, Belfast Registration district, age 54.

Now, is there any way of getting a copy cert? I know FreeBMD don't do NI.

You have to order it from Ireland - I seem to remember that for pre-1922 Northern Ireland certs you can order from either the Republic or Northern Ireland. I'll see if I can find the details in a few minutes.
