My James Johnstone had 3 sons called James, none of whom survived. James' himself is a mystery and, I believe, not even his wife actually knows when or where he died.

My Mum after she'd lost two children one at 6 weeks from leukemia and another aged 7 from stomach cancer had many miscarriages before adopting me.

She never got over losing them and wouldn't go to the cemetery - Dad and I used to go especially on Christmas Day.

In our family we lost 8 members in 12 months but had 3 births as well.

Julie

That is so sad. My own grandmother lost her elder son aged 15 from peritonitis. She kept all the condolence letters she received - heartbreaking. Years after his death she scrimped together the money to pay for a gravestone in his cemetery.
