Non-conformist LMA records - ancestry
At least according to this article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandsty...non-conformist but I can't see them on the Ancestry website. Can anyone else find them? |

This appears to be the link, but I'm getting the boy with the noose, and a message saying "The search request could not be completed because insufficient information was provided to Ancestry.com":

I'm getting the same error message, Mary.
The database isn't listed in "Recent Genealogy Databases" on ancestry so I guess it hasn't been uploaded yet! I see it says in the article "The names and details of half a million UK radicals and religious dissenters" but in ancestry's "What's new" it says "over 130,000 Non-Conformist Parish records", so I reckon the half a million will be counting some people many times e.g. once for their birth or baptism, once for their marriage, once for each of their children's births and once for their burial! I do find it annoying to read articles like that which don't mention any other similar websites - reading that, you would think that the FamilySearch Record Search and BMD Registers websites didn't exist! Okay, so ancestry have non-conformist records from the LMA while the other two sites have them from TNA, but the article gives the impression that non-conformist records haven't been online at all till now, don't you think? |

Yes, very annoying. I guess they don't bother to look for somebody who actually knows about genealogy to write an article like that, just give it to a journalist who does some rather superficial research, mostly based on the Ancestry press release.

Is it just what I'm searching for or are they all burials?

It's just you, Zoe; I've seen loads of baptisms on there and some marriages.

Now, why doesn't it surprise me that searching for Daniel Defoe comes up with "No Matches Found"?! Same for John Stuart Mill. Any idea how they've been transcribed?

None of my non-conformists have surfaced yet. I wonder how comprehensive it is yet.

I don't think Daniel Defoe is in there at all! If he is then I can't find him. You would think if they mentioned him in the press release, they would make sure he was easy to find! And yes, I saw on Wikipedia that his original surname was Foe, but I couldn't find him under that name either.
