Can anyone find Ellen Paines' death?
I haven't got any certificates for her as she was my GG aunt by marriage and there are closer relations that I need to get certs for.
She was born Ellen Pink in 1870 in Sydenham, Kent/London. She married my G Grandmother's brother, Edwin J Paines, in Fulham in 1890. I have her on 1891 census, living as a lodger with her baby son & her mother & sister, but without Edwin. I have her on 1901 census, in Hammersmith with Edwin and 5 children. On 1911 census, Edwin (listed as Edward) states he is a widower and is living in Hanwell (Brentford dist) with the same 5 children as in 1901. Ellen presumably must have died between 1901 and 1911, but I can't find her death on Free BMD or Ancestry. I've even looked under her maiden name! I've tried wildcard searches, all Paines' deaths in England & Wales between 1901 & 1911, even Ellen with no surname deaths a quarter at a time in London & Middlesex, but I can't find her. Any ideas please?

No, that's not right, she is 'Emily' Paine aged 38! (FreeBMD's page was a poor copy, so I tried Ancestry). Can't say how likely she is to be yours?

Maybe she hadn't died, but had run orf! Or was languishing in a mental asylum?

Thanks Merry, that may well be her. There appears to be a 2nd listing for this person with the name Edith Emily Paine, but the original is so hard to read. I think I'll have to get her marriage cert to see if that lists other first names for her that match just to satisfy my curiosity
I think I will try to ask my Mum's cousin, the oldest living relative, to see if she can remember any family stories about her , but I won't hold out much hope as she's in her late 80s

Edith Emily is only 20 at death and on a different page number to Emily aged 38.
If there were more firstnames on her marriage cert then they should be indexed.

My umpteen great grandfather calls himself a widower in 1871. In 1881 his wife was back with him. Ancestry demonstrated that in 1871 she was in Millbank Prison
