Default Adoption certificates

https://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagaz...tion%20records

Is it correct that time of birth is recorded on the adoption certificate as seems to be suggested above?

If so I will send for mine as I never knew what time of day I was born and bm never revealed or remembered the time any of her children were born.

That's interesting! I wonder why the time is recorded? My BIRTH certificate (I am not adopted) doesn't show the time of my birth, so where would that into come from?

The only time (as far as I know) that birth time is entered on an English cert is at multiple births. Scottish certificates, I think, record the time of birth routinely.

I am guessing that it was a multiple birth and that they copied the info from the original birth certificate.

That's what I thought too - tried to get through to the GRO to ask but the lines were too busy.

Still strange though, unless the babies were adopted together as twins, otherwise it has no relevance - the time is recorded for inheritance purposes, which wouldn't be needed for adoption.

Or maybe whoever wrote out the certificate recorded the time just because it was there on the birth cert, not because they had to!I

Let us know what the BRO say, if they ever answer their phone.

Edit I do mean the GRO, but autocorrect thinks otherwise!

I didn't read the article, but looking at that adoption cert, noticed the child was aged 3 when adoped. I wondered if she had retained her forenames, so looked at the GRO index for Q1 1955 same first name and middle initial and there is an apparent multiple birth with the same first name and middle initial for one of the two babies.

So if the child eventually gets their adoption certificate (I haven't got mine) they will be able to see they were a twin or triplet.

I have sent a message through the GRO site but it said it can take 5 days for a reply.

I suppose it depends on whether registrars always copied over the time of birth to the adoption certificate if it was shown on the birth cert.
