That Annie would be 4 on the 1901 census, not 6. Also Mitcheldean is not very near Downend. I think this is that Annie Elizabeth in 1901:

I can imagine Amy being written as Amie on the householder's form and then misread by the enumerator and copied out as Annie.

i'm totally addled.

I wish I could find connection between thatgirl and the Smiths.

Yes she eventually married a Smith, but he came from miles way

On the 1894 Gloucestershire electoral roll, Thomas Robinson is listed at Townend Street, Mitcheldean, which is the same street that Matthew Smith is at on the 1891 census. So they could have been neighbours. John Smith is also at Townend Street on the 1894 electoral roll but of course with a name like that I can't be sure he is the same John Smith who is Matthew's father in 1891.
