Anyone used Getty Provenance Index?
I’m going through the catalogue from the auction if Myles Ariel’s belongings after his sudden demise in 1840.
I thought I’d try this database to see if I could trace where the paintings came from. So far, no luck, but still finding my way around. I really find it hard to believe the artwork was original. It blows my mind. So.........if an auction catalogue had headings of Paintings, Drawings and Prints, would you expect the paintings were real?

I would expect them to be real in that they were really painted, but I guess they could have been painted by someone copying an original?

Thanks. I think I’ve found some of them, if they are the same ones. The description is much the same.
