Me again....... another mystery
Sorry - I'm using up my quota for the whole year this month I think
Have a little mystery with the Bridge family , as follows: Henry and Mary Bridge (maiden name not known) 1851 census 3 Ormrod Street, great Bolton Henry Bridge, Head, 24, Cotton Spinner, B: Bolton Lancashire Mary Bridge, wife, 29, B: Bolton Lancashire 1861 census 27 Ormrod Street (Cellar), Great Bolton Henry Bridge, head, 36, Cotton Spinner, B: Bolton Mary Bridge, wife, 42, Cotton Piecer, B: Bolton Betsy Bridge, daur, 9, Cotton Piecer, B: Bolton Seth ??croft, lodger 1871 census 66 W John Taylor Ct, great Bolton Henry Bridge, 38, Cotton Piecer B: Bolton Mary bridge, wife, 48, B: Bolton Betsy bridge, daur, 19, Cotton Piecer, B: Bolton Jane Leach, grandchild, 7, B: Bolton Margaret A Bridge, grandchild, 10 mos, B: Bolton Now, I can see the ages are off in 1871 compared to the others, but I'm pretty certain it's them because of grandchild Margaret Ann. I can't figure out who Jane Leach is and who's child she could be to make her their grandchild as Betsy is the only child I can find. tyia Z

I went back ten years looking for Sarah Leach and there were two, both married, when I'd expected the above Sarah to be single. One of the two married Sarahs had a child I could identify forward (Thurston Leach) in 1881 but his mother had changed from Sarah to Ann with a different birthplace, so maybe I should just go and make the breakfast?

Seth's surname is Flitcroft, if that's any help.

Lancashire BMD has Edward Pendlebury marrying Sarah Leach in 1880 at St John, Bolton, and it doesn't give an alternative surname for Sarah so that suggests she wasn't married before.

Right, that's good, so we need to try harder in the earlier censuses, maybe?
Hmmmm.....1861 should find Sarah Leach aged about 20. Result - no Sarah Leachs at all presumably as the 1871 two were not yet married and the other one is hiding. I moved forward to 1891 to see what birthplace Mrs pendlebury gave there, but they are sticking with Bolton. As an aside, I notice they have a different 'lodger' in the house in 1891 called John Mather, whose relationship to head is Orphan he is aged 46!! lol Bolton for Sarah in 1901 as well. Hmmm......maybe she was using a step-parents name before marriage? (or leach is her step-parent's name?) Maybe if we knew what Mrs Bridge's pre-marriage surname was we might be able to find Sarah using that? (my brain can't work out how they might be connected, but maybe the niece/granddaughter relationships for Jane Leach are approximates!)

John Mather is in a different household from Edward and Sarah, next door to them.

Oh is he? Still seems funny to call yourself an orphan at that age!
Thought I'd look for Henry, Mary and Margaret Bridge in 1881. Can't see them. At first I thought Margaret had died, but I think I was wrong in that. Haven't checked deaths for Henry and Mary yet.

Betsy Bridge marries Henry Southworth in 1871 and her, and Margaret are on 1881 as Southworths.
It's their son Walter (abt 1877) who is my connection (Walter's great granddaghter marries Henry Titus Higg's 3x great grandson) Thank you for all your help btw, had the planning inspectorate round so not had time to digest it all yet
