Default Tip for using Family Search

I don't think most people are aware just how much information (for free!) is available online on FamilySearch.

Tip for searching:

If you are doing research in a particular county:

After you sign in choose the Search menu and click on the Catalog tab.
When the next page comes up, under Availability check the online button.

Then type your search term into the search box.
E.g.
England, Cornwall

You should get quite a long list of options come up. For example, some probate documents are viewable, some aren't. You have to scroll down to find them once you open the page.

Also, by typing England, Cornwall, Probus or whatever parish name you are interested in, you will see the records available. You can often access the parish registers.

It varies county by county what is available, but it is amazing what you can find.
