I'm very frustrated about the will. It's given on FMP as I gave above. However, the "image" is just about the probate:
"Will of William Andrew late of Roughtown in the Parish of Saddleworth in the County of York clothier deceased was proved and Admon Granted unto William Newton Thomas Halliyard and Thomas Andrew the Executors. Sworn under £50" So I e-mailed the RO and this is their reply: "I have had a look at our wills database (http://archivedatabases.cheshire.gov...ts/search.aspx ) and also through the boxes of the three categories of wills we hold (WS,WI,WC) for 1840 and found no William Andrew. As you say, it comes up on FMP as held by us, but this appears to be an error, hence, no image. As William Andrew was of Saddleworth, York, I suggest you try the Borthwick Institute for Archives (https://www.york.ac.uk/borthwick/) as it would seem more likely that the will would go there rather than be stored in Cheshire." I really don't think the will is going to be a York as most Saddleworth wills seem to be at Chester. I'm tempted to ask them to look again, but it might look like criticism. |
