Default Saddleworth, Yorkshire

Does anyone have access to the records for Saddleworth Yorkshire? Or know how I can access them?
I have Samuel Woodhead married 1821 at Saddleworth to Alice Shaw nee Pogson and would like to see if I can find more.

Hi Julie, R has ancestors from Saddleworth and we paid a flying visit there a few years ago.

It proved very difficult for us to access the records we wanted, and we are still stuck on his Newtons.

I'm off to look at my notes and I'll be back to tell you what I've found.

Well, I have found that a lot of my research comes to a dead end at Saddleworth! The problem is that it's on the county border, and also there is a strong non-conformist presence there.

What date are you looking at, Julie? A contact sent me a copy of the transcription of the PRs for St Chad from 1613 to 1751. I could send it to you if it would be useful.

FMP has some burials for Saddleworth from the Manchester & Lancs Family History Society.

Apparently Ancestry has some later entries:

ooh, and some earlier ones too:

Liza . Samuel Woodhead mar Alice Shaw nee Pogson in 1821 at Saddleworth but I don't have any details. If you look at my recent post on Mrs. Ann Schofield someoneone wrote that John Schofield said in the census that he was born at Saddleworth around 1802. From what I can see there is a book on Saddleworth records but it finishes in 1800. You might be able to get the book from a library Elizabeth. I think I googled Saddleworth parish records and it came up.
A lot of the family were around Almondbury/Saddleworth/Marsden but then they crossed into Ripponden/Rishworth/Oldham and were Non-Conformist at Greenacres Chapel .. some of which I can find on Famsearch.

The marriage is on Ancestry in their Manchester collection. Here's the link:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...c=&pid=3837988

They married on 18 Nov 1821 at St Chad, Saddleworth. Both made their mark and the witnesses were John Shaw and William Wright.

There a mention of a Samuel Woodhead in Saddleworth in this 1834 Pigot's directory.

Many thanks they are a pesky lot Shona.... I thought Samuel Woodhead would be easy to identify but there are millions of them.. My Samuel was a weaver, but then most of them were. This was both Samuel and Alice's 2nd marriages. After their marriage they lived at Oldham, church Greenacres Chapel. I've found Alice's 1st marriage and her 1st husband's death, but haven't identified Samuel's. Both of them have son's from their 1st marriages with them on the 1841 Census. Interesting that one of the witnesses is a Shaw as that was her 1st husband's name. Julie (I will check Ancestry tomorrow hopefully).
