She could marry legally at 12 years of age, but this should have been with consent of parents.

Might it be that she didn't to begin with? I've seen the baptism for her which didn't take place until 1850 by which time I guess she was known as Bartlett if her mother was living with Richard at that time?

Well, some vicars would write 'minor' or 'with consent of parent' etc alongside the name in the marriage register (I guess this was the correct procedure) or maybe in the banns register - this one either hasn't bothered, or maybe she was a buxom wench and looked 21 or the vicar had bad eyesight and no one bothered about the formalities, OR the vicar did have parental consent, but didn't write it down anywhere!

mmm I just had a thought perhaps that's why she stuck in the name Bartlett then because by then she had lived with Richard Bartlett and had 6 more children although still not married in 1850. Caroline was born in 1826 and that baptism is 1850 not found one for nearer her birth. Perhaps Sophia thought that would make a difference to something or other sticking in Bartlett
