Census lookups please 1861 and later
Afternoon all
Can anyone spot a George Frederick Wells b1859 at Downham Market in the census please? I have his marriage cert from 1880 at Stockport, father is called Edward, his wife is Elizabeth Rebecca Elmer b 1853 North Elmham, Norfolk. The only other details known are that he was in Lincoln 1901 to the 1930's and died in Scarborough (although buried in Lincoln) in 1937. His mother may be Susan but i can't say for certain, if anyone can find him in the later census returns too that would be appreciated. Thanks

I've found him in 1871. He's at The Royal Asylum Of St Anne Society, Streatham Hill Surrey S W, Streatham.
Seems to be a school.

Thanks
Wonder what he was doing down there? I'm assuming his father had died a year or two before as i suspect his mother had remarried in 1868, i'll never be certain unless he pops up in the '61 though. He is a bit too far off centre to send for the b/c without something to hint at his folks beforehand. Just throwing it a slightly different way, is there a Susan Wells c1826 Wells next the Sea with a hubby called Edward in the '61?

Send me your email address Glen
I've found him in 1881 in Stockport with a family called Elmer Can't find him in 1861, are you sure he didn't make his fathers name up for the marriage cert? Do you have his birth cert?

I'm assuming you have the 1901 as you knew where they were.
Struggling with 1891

You could compare his birth cert to the marriage cert for Susan Wells to Mr Elmer and see if his mmn matches her father's surname.
Births Sep 1859 Wells George Frederick Downham 4b 369

Found them in 1891, still in Stockport. He can't make up his mind if he's George Frederick or Frederick George.
