Oh, so here it is on ancestry:
Birmingham marriages

His occupation is "wood turner". I was hoping for "wood turner, comedian and vocalist"!

Fancy that.

In 1891 there's a Paul Dillon, wood turner, born Worcester, boarding in Aston with his wife Fanny.

How did I miss this before?!

FamilySearch has the christening of Florence May Lillo Stone, 24 Nov 1878 at St Martin's Worcester, date of birth 13 Aug 1868, parents Albert Edam Stone and Frances Stone.

Yes, that's what I meant about "see post #23".

There is a report in the Sheffield Daily telegraph from 1875 of a Mr Paul Dillon, a comic vocalist, gaining a large share of public favour at the Royal Pavilion Music Hall. The Princess Lillo was also a great attraction.

But I can't figure out where the other children fit in. Wouldn't you expect them to be baptised with Florence?

There isn't even a matching birth for Florence.

And are we sure that Echo and Venus belong to the same family?

In 1884, The Dundee Courier in reporting the summons being issued by Mr Dillon, hotel keeper, against Samuel Neale for the abduction of his daughter, Florence, aged 15, states that Dillon's daughter performed with an elder and younger brother, the trio being known as Lillo, Elspa and Echo.

I read one advertisement where Lillo is described as a 'Flying Venus', Elspa is a 'Miniature Hercules' with Echo being a 'Pocket Clown'.

Echo seems to first appear in playbills, etc, in about 1882. The earliest reference to Venus - as a an individual - in a report of the Dillon troupe of gymnasts appearing in Madrid in 1887.

Venus sounds like a younger sister... but whose?
