There's this birth reg with the wrong first name! I can't find an Elizabeth to fit in 1881 nor a likely death reg for her, so I wondered if they had a change of heart over her name? (though she was baptised and registered soon after birth, making this scenario less likely, IMHO)

Thanks Merry

The Registrars searched their records and couldn't find her - wonder if they looked under the name Elizabeth. Will have to check.

I looked on the GRO and there's no mother's name listed for Elizabeth. As the parents of Margaret were married in 1866 I wouldn't have thought it is correct - however do you thinks its worth having a look?

It shows Elizabeth's MMN as Lashlie when I look on the online GRO birth index. Are you looking at a different entry, Julie?

There is a Margaret CARRICK birth registered Jul-Sep 1876 Tynemouth, vol 10B, p 177, MMN McKenzie. If she was born 2nd Jun they would have had till mid July to register her.

Thanks for looking Kite.

Looking at the census in 1881 and 1891 there's a Margaret Carrick daughter of Dorothy and Edward which fits to the Tynemouth birth.

Given that the father had a drink problem after his wife died so might have had one beforehand - he could have been sent to register the birth but forgot. There is a baptism though which the mother would have organised lol.

Except that there is an Edward Carrick / Dorothy Blackburn marriage Jul-Sep 1871 Newcastle, and a Margaret Carrick birth Jul-Sep 1875 Hexham, MMN Blackburn. Hexham was the district for Wylam which is where the Margaret who was dau of Edward and Dorothy was born according to the 1881 census.
