It looks like Bessithe or Bessinthe to me, but I don't think that's right!

I see that FamilySearch has some baptisms for a Bennette (various spellings) Pople and they say female, but it would be worth checking on the image to make sure, as FamilySearch transcribers can sometimes be prone to assuming gender etc.

Name: Bennette Pople
Gender: Female
Baptism/Christening Date: 30 May 1567
Baptism/Christening Place: SCOTTON,LINCOLN,ENGLAND
Father's Name: Richard Pople
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C03133-1

Richard Pople is my earliest known ancestor of this line, so it looks as though Bennette or Benitte was a family name. I wonder if there were Bennetts who married into the family?

I got six wills from Lincolnshire Archives today, one of which was for John Popple and his will was written in 1699. All the Popples were all from Scotton. Richard Popple was John Popple's great-grandfather.

Bennett used to be a middlingly common first name - I think it comes from Benedict? - I only know of it as a male name.

Anno dom 1567
Benitte Pople the daughter of Richard Pople was christened the 30th of May in the yere above said

Lower down there is another girl with the same name - Benitte Browne.

I've Googled "Benitte".

All that seems to come up is with it as a surname.
