There is a Sophia Lynn baptism at St Nicholas, Brighton, 13 Dec 1794, parents Charles and Sarah. A bit early for your Sophia, though. Does it state on the marriage that Sophia was a minor? And who were the witnesses?

Although the 1794 baptism is possible, it does not line up with her census ages very well. I had notes from somewhere that her parents might be Nicholas Linn and Sophia Lee, but don't remember where I got that from. (her third daughter was called Sophia Lee, but that really does not mean much).

The marriage date came from the IGI as I have her youngest daughters birth cert, so I should get organised and get the St Nich's film from the LDS library, the OPC and other sources don't cover the right period.

Its quite a long time since I tried to get back any further in Brighton.

So, 6 years later, I am have got no further in finding out Sophia Linn's baptism.

I did find that the 1794 is not my Sophia Linn.

The 1819 marriage transcription does not indicate she was a minor, but looking the baptisms of the children of Nicholas and Sophia Linn, the one before where my Sophia would fit was Jun 1796 and the next was Jan 1802, so there is a biggish gap where she could fit.

There are now a number of ancestry trees that include the LINN family to which I think she belongs, and I have had my DNA tested, so I am going to try for a DNA match with a descendant of that family.

At least I will know whether my assumptions are more clever deduction or wishful thinking, if I can find a current family member who has also had their DNA tested.
