Ah, FreeReg has the Kemp baptisms in Rutland.
It's Eleanor Esther, not Easter. http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search...ecordID=522441 |

Easter is an old variant spelling of Esther.

I didn't know that, Kite - that explains why I found what I thought was the wrong spelling in more than one place.

Anne, you'll find Eleanor Slater in Rutland on the 1841 and 1851 censuses. Haven't found a marriage for her, but I'll leave you the fun of continuing the research
There's also some very interesting Slater family correspondence on the National Archives site. |

Thanks very much again Mary. I have just found Francis Kemp as joint owner of the rectory in Belton in 1794. I wonder if Eleanor was born at Easter and she was christened on April 26th.http://www.theoldrectorybelton.co.uk/ It looks as though I might be able to do family history research in some style.

Re: marriage lookup
« Reply #2 on: Today at 12:57:13 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetings from Downunder, From Uppingham Parish Registers on microfiche (DE 1784/12) we have: No. 240 Daniel Slater of Preston in the County of Rutland and Eleanor Easter Hill widow OTP married by licence on 2 August 1835. Witnesses Edward Kemp and Mary Ann Hill Rector J G Dimock There is a marriage of a Philip Slater to Eleanor Dorman both OTP at Uppingham on ? July 1817 (No.53) And for interest; No. 211 William Baines bachelor of St Margaret Leicester and Mary Kemp spinster OTP married by licence on 7 September 1830. Witnesses Edward Kemp and Mary Ann Hill Rector J G Dimock It looks as though you were on the right track Mary. I asked for a lookup on rootschat and got the above reply. They also found Mary's marriage to Thomas Baines 13 Jun 1835 Preston Rutland. |

Ooh, excellent.
That Slater family correspondence on the TNA site looks very interesting to give some background information about the period. The Rectory looks very nice - not a bad place to stay while you're researching your tree |
