Default Joseph Butcher

Joseph Butcher is my 3xGt Grandfather that didn't make it to ToGG3 because I was on holiday. As I don't have his father for this weeks challenge I thought I'd post what I know to see if I/we can get any further back!

Name Joseph Butcher
Date and place of birth - abt 1796, Middlesex
Names of parents - unknown (there are a couple of possibles)
Date and place of baptism - unknown
Details of each of his or her marriages - Mary Underhay, 7 Feb 1819, St Botolph without Aldgate. Serial witnesses.
Occupation(s) - Shoe Maker
Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) -
1819 - 1833 Shoreditch/Spitalfields area, Middlesex
1841 - Duke St, Old Artillery Ground, Middlesex
Date, place and cause of death- 7 Mar 1842, Duke St, Old Artillery Ground. Disease of lungs. The informant on the cert is Sarah Hodges, cousin, of Petticoat Lane.
Date and place of burial - 11 Mar 1842, Christ Church, Spitalfields

Children - Ann Miram 1819, James Joseph 1821, Mary 1824, Rebecca 1826, Elizabeth 1831 (died 1832), John 1831, Elizabeth 1833. I've traced the children through marriages etc and have found no clues to Joseph's parentage.

The two possible births/baptisms are 1796, Deptford (which isn't Middlesex) to a Richard and Mary. 1783, St Luke Finsbury (which is Middlesex but is more than 10yrs out), to Theophilus and Rebecca. Unfortunately Joseph wife's mother was a Rebecca so we can't take that as a clue I do have Theophilus Butcher's Will, 1815 in which he leaves everything to his son James apart from ring to a friend. No mention of Joseph, so no help at all!

I thought the cousin Sarah Hodges was a major clue. However there are a couple of candidates and I can't connect them to Joseph. Maybe someone else can? Or give me some inspiration as to what to try next!

Thanks for reading all this. I had hoped that by typing it all out I'd find something I'd missed - but I didn't

Ooh, I have found something to help after all! The Deptford one who was the son of Richard was buried 9th Jan 1801 so at least you can rule him out.

Thank you Kite - I thought I'd looked for that but obviously not! I'm wondering if he wasn't born in Middlesex/London at all!
