Default Essex Parish Registers - FamilySearch

No images though.

FamilySearch Essex Parish Registers

I wonder if it is going to be linked to the new Essex Ancestors pay site?

Oh, wow! I'd prepared myself for there to be nothing new on there, as the number of records looks pretty low (I assume there's much more to come). Went through looking for stuff I already had and most of that wasn't even on there - then crossed my fingers and searched for my 3xg-grandparents' marriage which I have been looking for for years, and found it!!!

John Horner's first wife was Charlotte Sweatman, they married in 1778 and their last child was baptised 31 May 1789; then his first child with his second wife Elizabeth, my 3xg-grandmother, was baptised 3 Oct 1790. I've had that much info for years. So there was a pretty small window for their marriage. This absolutely has to be it! John Horner married Elizabeth Day 17 Dec 1789 at Waltham Holy Cross, Essex. (My Horners lived in Leytonstone but it's not that far from Waltham Abbey.)

Now to try to work out which Elizabeth Day she is... it's a shame that something has gone wrong with FamilySearch's transcriptions for this database so all the bridegrooms seem to have a marital status of "Married"! Ah well, if it is connected with Essex Ancestors I should hopefully be able to view the image when that goes live in a couple of weeks.

I've just keyed in one of OH's Essex surnames and there are several entries that don't give a parish ie event place - Essex, England. There's even one that says that the bride is of this parish but doesn't say what one!!

There's definitely transcription problem - I've found one marriage that just says Place - Essex, England but FMP tells me it's in Stanford Rivers. So it's not a problem with the record.

Doesn't look as if Weeley is amongst them! All of OH's Grandmothers side come from there.

Using the Essex transcriptions on familysearch I've found a few baptisms that are later than the ones digitised on SEAX, but not, sadly, some others. I'll have to fork out for the sub I think - when its launched and we see what exactly is covered.
