Where to go next?
'A' and 'B' are two sisters, together with the daughter of A they are my closest matches. 'A' and 'B' were born 25 years apart and 'B' looks to have passed away last year, the bmd entries suggest they both have the same father based on maiden name in the birth index.
'A' manages all three tests and has a private tree that will never be opened to me (I've had to use the birth index to work out how they were related to each other). She is also reluctant to reveal much information which isn't helping my efforts. A couple of Ancestry trees have her maternal line but stop at her father. Those tree owners don't come up in my matches but may not have taken tests. 'A' appears linked to some shared media from the largest (22k name) tree including certs from her maternal line. Based on what little I know I've built a 5 generation paternal pedigree tree for 'A' using census and bmd; 1) no matches between out trees 2}no other ancestry trees have any name I've found beyond her father 3)The two families are fairly close to each other in some census (around 15 miles apart), though there is nothing putting them in the same place at the same time. 4) I hit a dead-end at 5 generations with 'Patrick' c1825 Ireland I've also added my raw DNA test to myheritage and gedmatch, several hits on myheritage but mostly Irish and Australian, very little UK though I'm prepared to accept it's not as good for UK results. I've googled the names and tried searching forums but coming up blank. Am I missing some very obvious trick somewhere or have I covered the options?

Glen, just for clarification before I get into this properly - are you saying that you think A and B are half-sisters sharing a father, or that you think they are full sisters?

I think they are full sisters born 25 years apart (there are 7 births for the surname/mmn combination from 1935 and 1960 in the same district BUT the parents didn't marry until 1941). The dna share to me is 199cM 12 segments with A and 168cM 9 segment with B if that's any clue. I know the ethnicity isn't a guide but I'm way closer to B than A in that regard.
The father died soon after A was born, both events in the same district. No probate record for him so no clues there and there are no certs/refs on the ancestry trees.

Glen, I have sent you some PM's, but just thought I would say on here in case anyone is wondering, that going by shared matches, the link must be on A's mother's side, so we don't need to worry about problems with tracing her father's side of her tree.

My ignorance of DNA is apparent, I totally overlooked the smaller matches.
Chasing one name through the census and it looks like my sister's hubby's family were near neighbours back in the 1880's. (I'm easily distracted  )

Not really, Glen, but I had to start looking at the rest of your DNA matches too, to see which of the lines in your tree are confirmed by DNA matching and which aren't, so we can try to figure out where the lines which don't match your tree fit in. It does usually take time. Several of the matches in this group are descended from a couple called William Henry Chapman, born about 1872 in Sheffield, and Rose Wesseldine, born about 1872 in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. There are also some matches descended from Sarah Ann Wesseldine, Rose's sister. Their parents were Cornelius Wesseldine born about 1836 and Harriet Gowing / Gowen born about 1838, both in Horncastle. I haven't found matches descended from siblings of William Henry Chapman (yet) but of course it is a much more common surname than Wesseldine, so not so easy.
So I reckon you must have an ancestor on that Wesseldine line, but where exactly they fit into your tree I don't know yet.

Update - you also have DNA matches who are descended from Ann Wesseldine, Cornelius's sister, but it is complicated because they are also descended from Edward Healey Gowen, Harriet's nephew! And you have a match descended from Kate Wesseldine, another sister of Rose.

By my calculations, a child or a grandchild of Cornelius and Harriet could be your grandparent.

At least Lincolnshire is familiar ground for me and I have a lot of bits and bobs from the FHS that may prove useful.
I'm still sporting the dazed 'tweeting birds' look you see in cartoons though.
