Default Thomas Gayford Wigg 1836-1917

Thomas is my daughter's great great grandfather on her father's side, a bigamist and one time jailbird, who was baptised at home immediately after his birth as he was not expected to survive, lived to be 81 and produced at least twenty two children from his two 'marriages', the last of whom was born when he was 65.

I have now made contact with living descendants from the first (valid) marriage who are actually interested in the connection. I am in the process of assembling some photographs and other information to send to them and I suspect this will be the first they know of his slightly unsavoury history.

One of his descendants has her own website and I knew I had found the right family as soon as I saw her photograph - there is a definite resemblance.

I'm really quite excited about this - it takes my mind off my own brickwall, which is still standing!

How good to find other family members who are interested! That's great

For completeness, I sent all the info I had off to them a couple of months ago and have heard nothing. Oh well, at least they now know what happened to him and it might spark someone's interest at some point.

Default Thomas Gayford Wigg

Hi

I was interested to read your post about Thomas Gayford Wigg. He was my Great Grandfather on my mother's side. She tells me that the family story was that he was quite wealthy but ended up gambling the family fortune away. I would be interested to find out what brought him from Norfolk to Wolverhampton where he ended his days.

Would love to find out more information.

Thanks

Judith Wright

Judith

I think we may already know each other! Would you like to PM me and we can unravel this one?

Judi - Ask Imogen for my e mail address if you would like to pursue this and we can put our heads together. I keep a watching brief on the Wiggs in case Imogen gets interested at some point.

I'd not heard about the gambling - that does not figure in the story Grandma tells, but I suppose it could be a factor.

Anyway - let's compare notes.

All the best

Sheila (oops - blown my cover now!)
