Default Week 15 - Reginald Hooper Crane

Reginald Crane was born in 1889 in Leicester. His parents were Edward Emmanuel Crane and Sarah Susanna Daisy Crane nee Lee. Edward and Sarah only had two children and their daughter died at a few months of age, so Reginald was brought up like an only child (his parents didn't even acknowledge the existence of their daughter on the 1911 census.)

Reginald's father was a clerk for a general export merchant. His son was lucky enough to receive higher education following schooling at Wriggeston School in Leicester and in 1911 was a science student at Oxford University. He studied at Keble College and attained a B.A. and B.Sc.

At the end of 1914 Reginald joined the East Yorkshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant. He first served abroad in May 1915.

Reginald was killed on 4 Oct 1917. He has no known grave but his name is inscribed on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

I note that his parents called their house in Leicester 'Keble' in memory of their only son.
