Australian help - William Jackson born 1852
William Jackson was the only brother of my great-grandmother.
He was born in the Halifax district of Yorkshire in Q4 1852, parents Henry and Sophia Charlotte Jackson. I have him on the 1861 and 1871 Censuses and after that as a witness at my great-grandparents' wedding in 1879. After that he disappears. A family contact has just told me that there is a picture of him in Sydney, so we assume he emigrated. If anyone has a sighting of him I would be very grateful. |

Is it a family photo, or something she's found online?

No deaths for William Jackson, parents Henry and Sophia, in NSW between 1879 and 1952.
There are 3 deaths for a William Jackson father Henry, mother not named, in that period. |

A family photo, written on the back that it was taken of him in Sydney.
There was a huge box of stuff in the attic which hadn't seen the light of day for years. |

Thanks, Mary. Perhaps the box will unearth something more.

Pity it's such a common name.
The Australian indexes give parents' forenames for births and deaths, but not for marriages, so there's no point looking for a marriage, and I don't suppose a newspaper search will help. |

It's a shame he didn't have his mother's surname - Stillings.
Mary, thanks for looking. |

No problem, it only takes a minute. I've also had a quick look at passenger lists and police gazettes, but I can't see anything obvious.
Is there any chance that his parents or siblings emigrated, or have you found their deaths in England? |
