Default William Sturges

Name: William Sturges
Date and place of birth: unknown
Names of parents unknown
Date and place of baptism - if applicable unknown (possibly nearby Figheldean, Wiltshire - baptism 11 Jun 1746)
Details of each of his or her marriages: (1) 29 May 1776, Bulford, Wiltshire to Sarah Newman. I believe I found this in Bulford parish records but when I transferred from PAF to Legacy I lost some of my source information. On FMP, I’ve also found an entry from the Sarum Marriage Licence Bonds dated 20 Oct 1773, so don’t think the marriage date of 1776 can be correct.
(2) 12 December 1780 to Elizabeth Hayden of Durrington

Occupation(s) - if any: butcher
Addresses where they lived: Bulford, Wiltshire
Date, place and cause of death:
Date and place of burial: possibly 26 Sept 1811, Bulford
Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable

Jenny, the marriage record on FMP for William Sturges and Sarah Newman in 1773 states he was a Widower and a Butcher. So another marriage is out there somewhere!

Thank you Elizabeth, I noticed that last night but haven't been able to find anything on-line. Will keep on looking!

Bulford has an Online Parish Clerk:

It might be worth contacting the OPC and ask her if she can help.

Family Search has a baptism in Bulford for Frederick Sturges on 3 March 1771. Parents are William and Ann. Might be the first marriage?

On FMP, there is a burial for Ann Sturges on 6 August 1772 at Bulford St Leonard.

Ah-ha - think I've found the first marriage.

'Sturges, William, of Bulford, co Wilts, 24, & Anne Morgan, of St Mary's, Southampton, 26, 24 March 1769.'

Here's the link:

Thank you Kite & Shona! I'll take a look at the Online Parish Clerk as I have a few Bulford families.

And it looks as if you've solved the mystery of the first marriage Shona. I'll also have another look at the Bulford records on FMP. I trolled through them years ago at Wiltshire RO, but, at the time, was concentrating on another line.
Thank you again.

The OPC link that Kite posted has transcriptions of marriages 1608-1790 and 1791 to 1836. There's also the Protestation Returns of 1641-1642 (people who pledged allegiance to the King) - the name Sturges appears quite a few times.

Thanks, I had noticed the marriages but not the protestations. Now to connect the dots
