Maurice and Ann Murphy's deaths
This old thread shows the family in 1851 and 1861, where the surname is variously spelled Murthy and Merty:
http://www.genealogistsforum.co.uk/f...ghlight=morris Here they are in 1861: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...39?pId=5518945 The birthplaces are dubious (Maurice appears to have been born in Ireland). He is shown as aged 55, and Ann as 49. They are living in Charles St, St Leonards Shoreditch. By 1871, if the numbering is unchanged, the property is being pulled down. I had lazily assumed, like everyone else, that Maurice died in 1876 in Marylebone, but it seems more likely that this is his death: MURPHY, MAURICE 61 GRO Reference: 1867 D Quarter in SHOREDITCH Volume 01C Page 89 and this is Ann's MURPHY, ANN 60 GRO Reference: 1869 J Quarter in SHOREDITCH Volume 01C Maurice was a coachsmith, so it will be easy to check the death cert. Do you think it is worth getting them, or am I likely to be way out in my assumptions?

The 1867 one does look more likely for Maurice than the Marylebone one. I would be inclined to get that one first (1867 Maurice), because there are a lot more Ann Murphys around than Maurices.

I’d have a thorough search of the 1871 census first - especially any children in case they are with them.
If certain of Ann’s death would get that certificate as it should say wife of or widow of.

I've been unable to find Maurice or Ann. They are not with any of the (many!) children.
Maurice witnessed a child's marriage in 1864. The 1861 had at least three Maurices in Marylebone, which is why I think I have the wrong death. One is a bricklayer's labourer, in the workhouse in 1871, and I suspect he is the death I added to the tree.

Yay!
Utterly justified in my suspicions. Certificate gives place of death as Charles St, occupation as blacksmith!

It's great when you get a result.
