Re 9* My John Weston the grandson wasn't born until 1733 so as the bill is dated 1727 it is too early for him, no doubt related ..

The Westons are really quite interesting .. I hope the pedigree charts in the E Book might give me more clues.. It looks like it was originally de Weston.
Have you got more details about it, Julie?

This is what I posted:
I Googled John and Elizabeth Weston of Rotherfield, Sussex and it brought up a free E Book - "A Topographical History of Surrey" by EW Brayley...

I am an amateur with E Books and I thought I could use the snipping tool ..

On Pages 78 to 89 there is very interesting information about the Westons of West Horsley with reference to Rotherfield and Mayfield.

The problem is that the Pedigree charts are sideways on the page and I can't read them.

Thanks Liza. I see Phoenix is suggesting a way to do it .. so I must go back and look.. I'm not very good with computers... Just an old typist lol

Well that was interesting .. very confusing but interesting .. so going back to William the Conqueror it was de Weston .. at bottom of page 6 there is a Richard .. but not sure where he comes from!! I tried googling Richard Weston and that was a hoot .. three Sirs and the 1st Earl of Portland .. I rather fancied the botanist but far too late for my Richard .. oh well one day there might be a comprehensive book written by a competent historian who will untangle and reveal where my Richard really comes from .. (probably I'll be long gone .. but I wish I could share the story with my late bil whose ancestor laid claims to being a descendant of the Duke of Portland ..) Family history amazing stuff.
