Thanks to you both I had more or less given up on this bit of the family until this challenge. It is a long time since I found a direct ancestor. The name Everard seems to have died out fortunately but there were a lot of Emmas, Edwards and Eleanors. My grandfather's sisters were Marianne, Ellenor and Emma which always seems sad as their namesakes died young. He was Ernest and had a brother Edward.

I've checked the Leicester and Leicestershire marriage index 1801-37, and there isn't a marriage for Thomas and Mary Ann. However, it doesn't seem to include Rutland, so perhaps they were married there.

There is a possible marriage in Buckminster in 1824 for an Eleanor Hill to William Kirk.

In 1841 in Wisbech Cambridgeshire

Edward Hill, 25, Draper with with MARY, 30, Eleanor, 2, and various employees and apprentices, but also Emma Hill, 20 and Eleanor Hill 15.

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 79; Book: 7; Civil Parish: Wisbeach St Peter; County: Cambridgeshire; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 18; Page: 31; Line: 17;

Looks like they up and left Uppingham.

I have just seen ancestry have a christening record for Mary Anne Hill parents Everard and Eleanor Easter. I don't pay enough to see the full record unfortunately.

I hope you can make some more progress with the HILL family now, there does not seem to be anything for Everard on ancestry, and nothing further in the IGI. But happy hunting

Everard Hill made a annual Sub to the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1813.

Ooh, well done, Anne, just checked the BIVRI christenings on Ancestry, and found her. Stupidly it doesn't say which church, but it must be a nonconformist one because it gives the maternal grandfather's name!

3 christenings, all at Uppingham, Rutland:

Edward Hill 8/2/1813
Mary Ann Hill 17/6/1814
Elizabeth Hill 2/10/1821

In all cases the father is Everard Hill, mother Eleanar Easter, maternal grandfather Francis Kemp and maternal grandmother Eleanar.

Thanks I have never got a grandfather's name from a baptism before. Would that be Eleanor's mother's father do you think
The IGI gives the baptism as Ebenezer chapel Uppingham.

Oops, too late I don't know why, the page often doesn't refresh properly, so I tend to see posts a bit late.

It's the child's maternal grandfather, so it's Eleanor Easter's father.
