Default William Batman

Name DOB and POB
William Batman, about 1765, Yorkshire.

Parents
Thomas Batman and Mary Jarum

Baptised
9th April Hook, Yorkshire

Marriage
to Mary Mobbs..............I have 1795, Charlbury, Oxfordshire in my notes and no idea why.

Death
30th Dec 1833, Sydney Australia.
Buried
St Johns Parramatta

William was sentenced to 14 years transportation in 1797 for the theft of Saltpetre. He was a cutlar by trade and was sentenced along with his brother in law. At the trial they both had many witnesses say he did not commit the crime. He arrived in Australia on the Ganges (much can be read online about this horrible voyage). Also on board was his wife and two children who came as free settlets. William became one of Australia's busiest businessmen with a trade in timber.
