The best way to do that would probably be to get a birth certificate for one of Robert's children to find out Jane's maiden name, then use that to get Robert and Jane's marriage certificate which should tell you the name and occupation of Robert's father. Unless we can find something from the censuses etc...

Do you have his marriage cert to Jane or the birth cert of one of their children to pick up Jane's maiden name?

I've had a look through the censuses and Robert and Jane never seem to have any relatives with them apart from their children, so I think you would need to get certificates.

the administration for Robert mentioned a son, Rowland. I don't know how common a name that is in Wales, but there's this family in 1841:

Bryncroes

Jane Roberts 60
Catherine Williams 30
Jane Williams 25
William Williams 10
Rowland Williams 5 <<<<<<<< possible brother or other relative?
Robert Williams 1 <<<<<< possible for your Robert?

The most likely Robert Williams / Jane Williams marriage I can find on FreeBMD or North Wales BMD is Oct-Dec 1865 Pwllheli registration district, but North Wales BMD says it was a Register Office marriage, so it won't be in the parish registers on Findmypast. Of course there are loads of marriages between couples of those names, but that one is in the right district and more or less fits with the age of their eldest child on the 1871 census.

If you order the marriage cert from North Wales BMD the registration number is DWY/3/E159 and it gives the location as Dwyfor (Pwllheli). I'm not sure what the ref numbers would be to order it from the GRO because there are a couple of possibles. But I'm sure someone will figure it out, or I will tomorrow.

I'd be happier if someone confirmed, but the choices seem to be:

Marriages Dec 1865

ELLIS Elizabeth Pwllheli 11b 831
Jones Evan Pwllheli 11b 831
Williams Jane Pwllheli 11b 831
Williams Robert Pwllheli 11b 831

or

Marriages Dec 1865

Thomas Robert Pwllheli 11b 835
Williams Elizabeth Pwllheli 11b 835
Williams Jane Pwllheli 11b 835
Williams Robert Pwllheli 11b 835

Both sets are RO marriages.

In the first set Elizabeth Ellis married Evan Jones and Robert Williams m Jane Williams. In the second set Robert Williams m Elizabeth Williams and Robert Thomas m Jane Williams. So, it's the Williams to Williams marriage from the first set you need.

There was another set of marriages in 1862:

Marriages Jun 1862

Jones Griffith Pwllheli 11b 759
Williams Jane Pwllheli 11b 759
Williams Robert Pwllheli 11b 759
Williams Sarah Pwllheli 11b 759

but in this case it was Griffith Jones who married Jane Williams.
