In the London marriages on ancestry, but I have no idea whether it's the right couple or not.

I think someone said one of the children was born in Cairo? Would that be as in Egypt? If so would that birth record be available? Sometimes birth's registered overseas have quite a lot of information and might include mother's maiden name?

Just for reference because its very likely they are connected to this family save looking for them again.

There is a tree on Ancestry with these in they are descendents of a very old Cumberland family the name Sancton was taken as a first name - it originated with an uncle Philip Sancton, a successful London Merchant (how true this is I don't know). I expect the marriage Shona found is also connected. The other connection is that John Wood this Sancton's father was married at St Pancras Chapel.

Also if Edward Bell was a civil engineer who traveled to Cairo he may have something to do with the construction around that time in Egypt the Suez Canal however wasn't started until 1859!

It looks like some of Sancton William Wood Bell's siblings were baptised at Putney St Mary Wandsworth.

This is one is Laura or Lara although on the 1851 census it looks like Louisa unless they are different children born in Egypt doubt it though born 1839.

The name on the 1851 census for the child born in Cairo looks like Laria or Zaria to me, Maggie. I think the one age 5 born Surrey is Louisa?

Yes, it is Egypt. I can't see the birth reg on the overseas index on FMP but the birth cert for any of the children born in England or Wales would give MMN; I would have thought it would be easier to get one of those?

Yes I was just going to say the same as Kiterunner re birth cert for one of the children.

To see maiden surname.

Trouble is I can't seem to find them, the common names mmmm loads in Surrey and the unusual names I can't find at all in Wales or England.

This could be Annie but can't be sure.

Yep you're right either way the enumerator had trouble with the spelling.
