Default Holden/catterall/nowell/family

Hello, Do any of your members have records for the family of Luke Holden born Preston. I have his immediate records but there are more recent people I am still looking for - probably in the USA as Luke emigrated with his wife Nancy (nee Catterall) in the late 1800's. Most of these families listed above are from the Lancashire area.

Have you found the exact date they went to USA??

If you find that, you could probably get them in the USA census.

Have you looked for anyone else with those names, maybe they would be helpful......although you'd still have to check them yourself, at least you'd have a starting place.

Their marriage is on FamilySearch, 15 Jun 1889 at Emmanuel, Preston, Lancashire, groom's age 29, father William Holden. And also on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks, which says his father was William Holden (deceased), occupation weaver, and says Luke was a bachelor, of 3 Moor Hall Street. Witnesses James Ainsworth and Jane Catterall.

This is the family on the 1891 census of England, at 24 Blackburn Road, Great Harwood:
Luke Holden Head M 30 Cotton Weaver Lancashire Preston
Nancy Do Wife M 22 Dressmaker Do Tockholes.

So this is Luke on the 1881 census, at 17 Blackburn Rd, Great Harwood, with the family of William Whittam:
Luke Holden Lodger Unmarried 20 Cotton Weaver Lancashire Preston

1871 census at 51 Frank St., Preston, with his family:
William Holden Head Mar 27 Weaver Cotton Lancashire Preston
Elizabeth Do Wife Do 27 Do Do
John Do Son Unm 13 Weaver Cotton Do Do
Luke Do Son 10 Scholar Do Do
Jane Do Daur 6 Do Do Do
Mary A Do Daur 1 Do Do
Ann Whiteside Mother in Law Mar 52 Weaver Cotton Do Do

And on the 1861 census at Cowling, Chorley, Lancashire
William Holden Head Mar 25 Cotton Weaver Lancashire Preston
Elizabeth Do Wife Mar 25 Cotton Carder Do Do
John Do Son 3 Do Do
Luke Do Son 1 Do Do

There are some Holdings from Preston in the previous household who may or may not be related.

But which people are you actually looking for?

One tree has their children, Jane and Annie being born UK. 1889 and 1890 and then has the 1891 census, so presume they didn't go until after the 1891 census.

Forget this tree........nnot sure where the owner has got info. It says it's sourced, but the sources don't add up.

OK......theory..

Luke and Nancy Holden are on the 1891 census, without children.

There are two girls, Annie and Jane born 1889 and 1890 in Lancs to a Luke and Nancy Holden.

There is one other Luke Holden on 1891 (wife Elizabeth) but they don't have these two girls.

There is a Anie Holden who fits that birth in 1901 in another household but you'd expect her to be with her parents in 1891 if she were Luke and Nancy's child.

My theory is...

Annie and Jane are the children of your Luke and Nancy. Both died (see if you can find deaths) by 1891 and Luke and Nancy went to USA to start afresh.

It's not yet 6am so the brain isn't all that great yet...lol

From Lancs OPC

Bap

Jane Holden Sept 1889 Preston
Annie Holden Aug 1890 Walmsley
Both children of Luke and Nancy Holden.

From FreeBMD

Deaths.

Jane Holden Garstang aged 0 Dec 1890

Annie Holden Bolton aged 0 Sep 1890
Annie Holden Blackburn aged 1 Mar 1891
Annie Holden Manchester aged 0 Mar 1891

I'm not great at the districts so maybe someone could check if any of these are suitable, then you could get the certs.

I don't have access to the US censuses, but from playing with the index, there seems to be a Luke and Nancy Holden living at Bristol County, Massachusetts in 1900.
