Oh, I thought perhaps it was too late. Should have gone with my instinct.
I wonder what happened to Edward's brother. |

My Henry and Edward's parents were Richard Randolph and his wife Jane, maiden name Parrott.

New South Wales BDM has the death of a Henry Randolph in 1883 at Wagga Wagga, age 58. It doesn't give his parents' names. I'll see if I can find out any more about him.

The NSW State Archives search comes up with a Henry Randolph on the Assisted Immigrants Index, ship Francis Ridley, year 1849, place of arrival Port Phillip. The passenger list has Edward age 29 and Henry age 24 together, both farm labourers, Edward's birthplace Chipperly, Bucks, and Henry's "Austin Linton" (presumably Aston Clinton?).

Great, thanks. That's very interesting.
Their father Richard Randolph was a veterinary surgeon (given on his wife's death certificate). He died in 1840 at Peckham Rye. Jane lived until 1853, so it must have been a wrench for her when the boys left. She worked at the College for Civil Engineers, Putney, Surrey. According to the information on the sheets Henry Adolphus Randolph was born on 24th July 1824 at Upper Winchendon. Wow, I have just been deciphering what was written about Edward. It's all very squashed up. "Much regretted" with "Jane R." directly underneath and then "Was killed on the spot 17 October 1861" Jane his mother can't have written this as she was already dead, so it might have been his sister Jane, who didn't marry until 1863. There is a Henry Randolph listed in Victoria Rate Books (on Ancestry) at The Crown, Waranga, in the 1860's and 1870's. No idea whether it's the same Henry though.

Thanks, Kate.
I see that it's "straight up the road" from Deep Creek, Victoria to Wagga Wagga, NSW! Only 432 K! |
