There is an entry listed on findmypast as a "parish burial" which I think is likely to be the death registration taken from the Derbyshire register office indexes:
ROGERS Samuel, 1842, year of birth 1760, place Ilkeston, county Derbyshire.

So I think the GRO death registration is this one:
Deaths Sep 1842 ROGERS Samuel Basford 15 283.

There's a marriage at (Norton) Cuckney, Nottinghamshire, 18 May 1786, between Samuel Rodgers and Mary Pickering. I could have a look next time I go to Notts Archives to see if it says he was from Smalley.

Thank you for looking Kite, a few years back i was told he was a parish clerk and the Smalley burial i found was on FMP, that death sounds right though, will send off for it.

I had found this, but wasn`t sure if Samuel had independant means, though his father could have left a will (not found one though) as he was a framesmith, farmer and blacksmith, but could be working 3 jobs to feed all those children.

Oh oh oh, just looked at the children of Samuel, first born was Sarah baptised 15 Apr 1787, which could fit with Sarah on that 1841 census.

So please if you have the time you next go to Notts, could well be them.

Off to look for Sarah in 1851, to see if she came from Smalley.

Looks like Sarah died in 1849, so not on 1851 census, but there is a tree on ancestry that says she was from Smalley and married in Morley 10 Oct 1803, i will look into that.

Unfortunatly they don`t have Samuel.
