Broughton Abbott of the Lancashire Fusiliers, b 1892 Barnoldswick. He had been a soldier for 7 years when he died of wounds on 26 April 1917 near Calais. He had seved in India and the Dardanelles. He was shot in the legs at Suvla Bay and spent time in hospital in Malta before returning to England for a year. 5 weeks before his death he was sent to France and was wounded again in both legs, his right leg was amputuated above the knee and nursing sister WM Langlands wrote to the family to tell them of the grave situation, and then again to inform them of his death. He was my great grandmother's brother.
