Robert Francis Coombs (if he is the same person as the slave owner) is listed as a slave in 1817:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...rce&pId=297403 Jamaica - A Return of Slaves in the Parish of Saint Ann, in the possession of Rose Coombs as Acting Executor to the Estate of William Coombs deceased on the 28th day of June in the Year of our Lord 1817 Male - original name Robert, Christian Name Robert Francis Coombs, colour Negroe, age 17, Creole, son of Lyddia No 3. |

William Coombes could have been Roberts father and did exactly what Robert did for his children left them his property after the death of Rose if she was William's wife or inherited part of his estate which included slaves. By the time Robert died slavery had been abolished.

I liked the other two but I preferred this one because it is my area, the East End. I like Jewish history and the West Indies. Alex met her mum in the old Bethnal Green Town Hall which is now tea rooms, restaurant and a very posh hotel its just a street away from me.

I wondered where and what that rather palatial looking building was. When I saw the afternoon tea laid out in front of them I guessed it must be a hotel. I have always been fascinated by the history of European Jews. Because of my interest I was pleased when I found that I had a 3xgt.grandfather who was a German Jewish tailor and who arrived in London in the 1820s.

I am fascinated by Jewish history too and always expected to find I have Jewish ancestors somewhere. Not so far, though! My first husband was Jewish but was not observant, so I learned nothing from him. I did manage to trace his family back a good few generations for my daughter's sake, what a fascinating family, I wish I had taken more interest at the right time. OC |
