James Brewer - Ancestry look-up baptism please
A contact in Australia is a descendant of James Brewer (who is mentioned as a child of James Penfold Brewer and Eliza (nee Jeffcoat) on my thread re. Eliza Jeffcoat (MFMM).
He has asked me for James Brewer's dob, which I don't have. I believe he was born in March qr 1853 in Chelsea - 1a 113. On the census his place of birth is given as Chelsea and they lived there at Beaufort Terrace West for a while. I haven't got Ancestry at present, and I might have already tried to find his baptism. Could someone please double-check for me to see if his baptism comes up? I need to e-mail my contact because they are putting up a memorial to James Brewer in Australia.

There doesn't seem to be a c1853 baptism on there but there is this one
St Mary, Islington - John James son of James Penfold and Eliza Brewer Bapt 31 May 1846, born 28th (I think) March 1846. Chalk Road. Father's occ. builder

I think the first son John James died. Robert William was this James' elder brother. There was also Eliza Anne born Dec qr 1850 Pimilico. Neither Eliza Anne's birth nor James' seems to appear. James Penfold Brewer died on 31st August 1854 in Battersea. Eliza Brewer nee Jeffcoat was living with her parents in Islington when she married James Penfold Brewer. They married there, then moved about a bit.! I've tried playing with various combinations but not come up with any other children. If its any help, Eliza Annie's (that's how its written on the cert) marriage in 1878 is on there. I can give you more details if you would like them

Jackie, thanks for the offer of the marriage cert - I got it before I let my Ancestry subscription lapse.
She married John Harrison Sharp on 14 Dec 1878 at St George Bloomsbury. I think I have enough information to e-mail my contact. If he likes, he can get the birth certificate I identified for James Brewer in 1853. He went to Australia after the 1871 census and married there in 1876.
