1821 - The George Canning, under Captain Potter sailed April 14, 1821 and arrived at Quebec June 1, 1821, aboard were 490 Passengers. Many of them members of the ‘Bridgeton Canadian Immigration Society, 1821’ a group of Scottish weavers who were part of a government resettlement project. This group was headed by John Kilpatrick.
The passenger list contains the names of John Kilpatrick, age 41 a married man, female age 41 and four children two sons, ages 1 and 12 & three daughters ages 6, 9, and 18. Also Ephraim Kilpatrick , age 21, a single man - probably another son.
The family settled in West half, lot 11, Con 8, Ramsay Township, Lanark, Ontario, Canada. This land was up for forfeiture in 1839. The land had been granted to John Kilpatrick in 1821 and he had completed all his settlement duties before his death. The land was occupied by Janet Mills widow of John Kilpatrick. Ephraim claimed the land as eldest son and heir by law. Notice was posted in the office of the Clerk of the Peace, Bathurst district from 24 April to 1 July 1841. John Kilpatrick (Jr.?) said that he had known John Kilpatrick and that he was deceased and had left no will and that Ephraim was his eldest son.
