Ednah Newman Purvey Robins 1798/9 - 1889 Gloucestershire
Birth & baptism
not found, from census info Edna was born abt 1898/9/1800 in Chedworth, Gloucestershire. I believe she was a daughter of John Newman and Elizabeth nee Bartlett, who had other daughters baptised in Chedworth, Gloucestershire. I think this is right because one of these other daughters was called Charity, and Ednah's son John named one of his daughters Charity. Another known daughter of John & Elizabeth was Sophia Newman, who witnessed Ednah's first marriage Ednah's first husband was William Purvey and I am descended from this marriage. They married 16 Aug 1817 when Ednah was a minor. William was a lot older than her and he died in 1836. The marriage register records the bride as "Edner". Witnesses: Thomas Holland & Sophia Newman Children of Ednah & William Purvey: Ann b 1820 Jane 1821 Charlotte 1823 William 1824/5 Harriet 1829 John 1833 Only burial found for William Purvey is 1836, so clearly some of Edna's children in 1841 census can't have been his! 1841 Chedworth, Gloucestershire Edna Purvey 40 ag lab William Purvey 15, Harriot 13, John 10, Elin 7, Thomas 5, Elizabeth 1 month 1843 title map of Chedworth shows Edna Purvey as a renter of a cottage & garden from James Ballinger 1845 birth of (illegitimate) son Job Sherborne Purvey [don't have any clues with name Sherborne, but there was a Job Trotman living next door to Edna in 1841] 1851 Chedworth, Gloucestershire Edna Purvey widow, 52, no occupation given Elizabeth 16, Ellen 10, Job 6 2nd marriage to Charles Robins, 08 Nov 1856 at Chedworth, witnesses: James Ballinger [probably the man who rented her cottage to her] & Jane Timms 1861 Chedworth, Gloucestershire Charles Robins ag lab Edna Robins wife 61 Job Purvey son 16 ag lab 1871 Chedworth, Gloucestershire Charles Robins 76 ag lab Edna Robins wife 73 1881 Cheap Street, Chedworth, Gloucestershire Edna Robins widow 83 labourer Death 12 Jan 1889, Chedworth, Edna Robins aged 91, cause: chronic bronchitis.
