Default Catherine Knight nee Horn(e)

Great Aunt Kate was born in Shamley Green, Wonersh, Surrey in 1871 - and appears on the census aged 1 month with parents John and Catherine.

In June qtr 1896 she married Alfred Knight.

In 1901 she is with Alfred, a drayman, born Cranleigh, in Church St Cobham.

There is a possible death for Alred in 1904.

The family story is that she had a daughter, possibly born out of wedlock, who treated her badly, and Catherine committed suicide by throwing herself into a river, like Virginia Woolf.

I don't know the daughter's name, or Catherine's surname at death, or when she died! (Though I assume she died between about 1930 and 1947, in Surrey)

Can anyone find a suitable death on Ancestry? Assuming she still was Catherine Knight?

Any ideas where in Surrey (what district)?

There are 14 on Ancestry and at least 2 so far are the right age.

Only checked Catherine, not Kate or Katherine.

I've assumed it was West Surrey - the Guildford area. This based on the fact that my grandfather had to identify the body. I imagine it was probably 1944 or earlier, but this is an assumption too.

Margaret, you're a gem! That 1937 death looks spot on age and district wise!

I suppose she would have been registered as Catherine though if the person registering her death was a very close relative.

Hope so, there are loads of Kate's who fit.

It doesn't make much difference to Catherine, but isn't this death more likely for Alfred if they lived in Cobham?

Deaths Dec 1906
Knight Alfred 35 Epsom 2a 37

I haven't been able to pin down Catherine in 1911. I was thinking that the child she had was most likely born by that date, so you could get her name, but not that easy!

yes, you are right, much better fit.

And I've found her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's in Wey View, Church Street, Weybridge widowed, a domestic servant, with one child living (naturally, not with her!)

And the reason she's hidden? 39 has been mistranscribed, perfectly understandably when you view the image, as 89!

Phoenix, I was trying to see if there was any connection with my Knights (of Thursley and Hambledon) but they are too early.

This is my mother's area, and I got married at Shalford and our wedding reception was at Bramley.
