Default Another will question.

I've bought wills from TNA and Lancashire before, but there are some I can't find in either of places.

Is there a list somewhere of other places you can buy wills?????

and

If a will was written in Lancashire (Hawkshead) would it be somewhere else if not at Lancs Will search???

They are all before 1800.

Thanks.

I don't think it depends on where the will was written, but where the testator held property. As far as I know, Lancashire Will Search isn't complete, so you could contact Lancashire Archives to ask if they have it anyway, or try the Borthwick Institute:
http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/bihr/
Some of the Borthwick Institute probate indexes are online at British Origins; you can get a 72-hour sub to that site quite cheaply and it doesn't get renewed automatically or anything.

Libby

If Kate's suggestion doesn't produce any results, you could try googling for the "Western Deaneries of the Archdeaconry of Richmond".

Some/many Lancashire wills were proved there, a hangover from the days when Lancashire was part of Yorkshire.....some of these wills are in the LancsRO and some are not!
