Olive May Fenton
Name - "official" name and what they were known as
Olive May Fenton Date and place of birth 27th July 1896 Gladeswood Road, Belvedere, Erith, Kent Names of parents Frederick George Fenton and Florence Selina Gloster (aka Selina Ann Gloster) Date and place of baptism - if applicable not yet found Details of each of his or her marriages 14 August 1912 to Oscar Linkson at Barnet Register Office 2nd marriage not found - see footnote, help needed Occupation(s) - if any none found Military service - if any none Addresses where they lived Gladeswood Road, Belvedere 1901 - Sheringham Road or Avenue, East Ham (image unclear - RG13; Piece: 1601; Folio: 119; Page: 34) 1911 - 33 Eastdown Park, Lee 1912 - Hadley Hotel, Barnet, Hertfordshire (residence on marriage - although deceased father was down as hotel proprietor so could have been home) 1913 - Ferguson Road, Barnet, Hertfordshire 1914 - Dublin, Ireland Date, place and cause of death unknown - probably Australia Date and place of burial / cremation. unknown Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable Memorial inscription - if any Footnote for help needed: I was in touch with a family member about 5 years ago who said that after her 1st husband's death in WWI that Olive remarried and moved to Australia or New Zealand. This marriage produced twin sons. I would love to find out more information about this if possible. 2nd husbands name is not known although she thinks it was possibly Palmer. Olive wasn't well liked by her mother in law so I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't hang around - but both her children (born 1913 and 1914) remained in the UK so at a guess her moving would have been after they had grown as the relative didn't know of them being brought up by someone else. Olive married less than three weeks after her 16th birthday and had her children aged 17/18 and was widowed by 20 so there is time there for her to remarry and move once they had grown. Apologies for rambling but I had completely forgotten this little mystery that I have never been able to solve

Palmer is a red herring - that's a surname from the other part of Olive's family that went to Australia. I can't find the scrap of paper with the surname on right now. So I guess it will probably remain a mystery

Hi
If she waited to her children were grown up, then she probably stayed in England until about the mid 1930s, and as that was the middle of the depression, possibly did not migrate until after ww2, which would have put her in her forties if and when she remarried. Few records are available for marriages at that time - although more are coming all the time. At present NSW, WA and QUeensland have free indexes for BMD, as does NZ, Victoria has them on line for a fee. You have to search each one separately. If you can find her second married name, there are lots of on-line cemetery indexes which might help Di |

Hi Zoe
Not sure if this is any good as it's a marriage in her maiden name. Tasmania, Australia, Index to Marriage Notices in The Mercury, 1854-1962 (Ancestry) Name: Olive May Fenton Spouse Name: Donald E Chipman Marriage Date: 30 Dec 1920 Gender: Female Publication Date: 21 Feb 1921 Name: Donald E Chipman Spouse Name: Olive May Fenton Marriage Date: 30 Dec 1920 Gender: Male Publication Date: 21 Feb 1921

Sadly that looks to be a red herring. A submitted entry on the IGI gives her DOB as 09 MAY 1898 Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Mary I think the Olive who married Mr Lynn is Oscar & Olive's daughter.

Anyway, she would have married for the second time under the name of Linkson, wouldn't she?
The only possible marriage I can find in the UK is Olive Linkson to a Lynn in Surrey in 1940. That couple had a daughter in 1947. Bit late for your Olive to be having children, maybe. There is an Olive May Lynn on the electoral roll in Sydney in the 1940s/50s, but she appears to have been Olive May Law who married a Lynn in Aus, so I should think she's irrelevant. |

I guess you could be right, in view of Olive's date of birth. Odd that she married in her maiden name, though. And she's still very old to be having those children.

Going off her age the births do seem unlikely, but I can't see another Wellings/Fenton marriage.
