what if
having spent hours and hours to no avail trying to find my grandfather robert girling, what if i try to look for brothers or sisters, presuming he had some, how would i go about it
the only things i know is my father albert girling was born in liverpool in 1912, the whole family are in liverpool, but the marriage took place in islington london in 1915, i presume they did not want anyone in liverpool to know they had 2 boys before getting married now i know you have to post the bans some weeks before so maybe they used his parents home to do that and pretended they lived there, on the marriage certificate it has fathers name as harry girling - superintendent of trams, which could fit london they used the address of 89 norbreck road, finsbury park, who's home was this, they married at the church of the sacred heart edon grove, islington if this is tied into the family how can i search for siblings, on the certificate robert girling s down as 36, so a birth around 1879, any thoughts please |

I'm not having any luck with Norb* or *breck Road in Finsbury in 1881, 1891, 1901 or 1911 so I expect it's been read incorrectly. I don't know the area, so am not much help.

Is it definitely written Norbreck because there is a Brecknock Rd.
Edit to say: I know this is going to sound silly but there was a Norbreck Rd in Lancashire and a Finsbury Park in Cheshire and an Islington in Liverpool! Is it definitely London? |

hi merry, just rang my sister and got her to look at it again, it is definitely 89, same with road, same with finsbury park, the name is the hard to read bit , starts with a h or w or n then ordsbrek, could be wordsbrek maybe, can't see another letter on the certificate to compare it with, hope this helps

Was the marriage by Banns?
It's a bit odd, because Eden Grove is in Holloway, which isn't really either Finsbury Park OR Islington. I am not familiar with RC parishes though, so maybe the RC parish was a lot bigger than the C of E one. OC |
