I have 2nd cousins who were born in India and they were orphaned at approx 3+5 years old, their French aunt (mothers sister) brought them up. Their father and all his brothers were also born in India and he served with the South Lancs Reg, he also served in South Africa just before his death. I suppose if you had other family members there, then they may have taken them on.

Thanks everyone. I'll have a look in England and Scotland to see if they were sent home. I can't see if they were taken in by other members of the family as they neither married or died so there is no record of them at all.

The website on the history of army children is very interesting. Thanks for posting that.
