Eliza Edney born Stubbington
My tree has James Edney and Eliza, with many children including
Eliza Edney b 1837 George Edney b 1840 Here are the family with the two youngest children in 1851, in Stubbington Road, Crofton: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...63?pId=5839876 By 1861, George and his elder brother John are living at Stoners Farm Rowner, with Thomas and Mary Earwaker In 1871, George has a complete family: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...6?pId=27315787 However, in 1861, Sarah was the young second wife of Henry Blackman, twenty years her senior. All four children were registered with the surname Blackman, mmn Page Henry and Sarah married just before the census: Marriages Mar 1861 (>99%) Blackman Henry Fareham Page Sarah Fareham

Arthur and Harry are presumably Henry's boys, born before he died in 1864. Alfred and Caroline were both base born, so who the father was is anyone's guess.
George and Sara don't get round to tying the knot until 1873. Then it's in Portsmouth, not Stubbington where they are living, and it's a double wedding: Marriages Mar 1873 (>99%) Blackman Sarah Portsea Island 2b 616 EARWAKER Charles Portsea 2b 616 Edney Eliza Portsea 2b 616 Edney George Portsea 2b 616

The obvious conclusion is that Eliza is George's sister, and that she has known the Earwaker family for years.
This is Charles Earwaker in 1871: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...0?pId=12989216 Sarah Jane b 1860 mmn Edney Elizabet b 1864 mmn Edney Henry Charles b 1862 ditto Ellen b 1866 And here is the family in 1861: Charles, Eliza and baby Sara Jane: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...02?pId=7870392 Emily b 1869 I obviously need both marriages to prove the point, and Charles and/or George may have both been previously married, but does it seem reasonable that I am on the right lines, and they are brother and sister?

One of my DNA matches has Charles and Eliza in their tree, but a different father for Eliza, obtained, I suspect, simply from trawling censuses and paying no attention to pob. Titchfield people might pop across to marry in Portsmouth, but I cannot imagine a Portsmouth native claiming to have been born in the sticks.
