There is a tree on Ancestry that gives John's burial date as 8 Dec 1811. On the same tree there is a photo of a Will of John Bown, Horsley which looks to me as if it was proved in 1769. I'd be grateful if someone else could to take a look. http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/184...ct/14220095336 If it is 1769 it's unlikely to be my "John Bown" as he and Margaret were producing children until 1780! The problem is that John, and his father, both came from large families and most of their siblings named some of their children John and Daniel which makes it very difficult to work out who's who!

I've just ordered a Will dated 1806 for a John Bown of Horsley from Gloucestershire Archives. No other information given - lets hope it throws some light on all the John Bowns!

Received the Will from Gloucestershire Archives - very speedy service!

Not my John Bown though. He doesn't appear to have any children making lots of bequests to nephews and nieces and seems to have originated in Avening and by tracing all those named in the Will the family seems firmly entrenched there. I realise that there's only four miles between the two "towns" but the Horsley line runs concurrently with the Avening one and this one seems much wealthier than mine!

I'm sure there is a connection way back but not sure if I'll ever find it!
